What an amazing first year I’ve had!
My wife has been a transcriber with McGowan Transcriptions for some years, so I had already heard some great things from her about this company. Therefore it was a real honour to become part of the team when I joined the Quality Control department last year, and I could not have hoped for a better welcome!
Everyone has been so supportive and encouraging, and even though the work is home-based, the regular contact with the team throughout the working day feels like we’re together in the same place. We’re all just a video call or tippity-tap of the keyboard away from each other!
Being in this job constantly amazes me when I see the exceptional quality of work produced by our transcribers, who take raw audio from many sources and transform it into well-presented, coherent representations of the original content. I’m so proud to be a part of this winning team, and the excellent feedback from grateful clients proves just how fantastic they all are.
I’ve found that my varied backgrounds in administration, computing, and professional fundraising, have helped me to be effective at some of the main aspects of the quality control work. I was an avid reader from a young age, almost always being found with either a fictional or technical book in my hand, so I have a real love of the written word. When computers started becoming the norm, I chose to learn the art of programming. This gave me a keen eye to spot things that are out of place or ‘not quite right’, which is essential in the role of quality control. Added to this, my experience talking to people across a wide range of nationalities and ethnicities with varying accents has helped me to pick up on uncommon words and terms, which helps to confirm that transcripts reflect exactly what was spoken.
Of course, there is always more for me to learn, and I receive excellent encouragement and training at McGowan Transcriptions in other aspects of the business, such as learning how to complete closed caption files. Now that I’ve settled in after my first year and got some of the basics down, I’m ready to face the next challenges. From creating and modifying templates for new and existing clients to getting involved in more of the background workings of this industry, I’m looking forward to helping provide the best transcription service available.
Many thanks to Joe, Linda, Tracey, Cheryl, and the whole team of wonderful transcribers who make it a joy to work here – let’s have another great year to come!
