What an amazing first year I’ve had!

My wife has been a transcriber with McGowan Transcriptions for some years, so I had already heard some great things from her about this company. Therefore it was a real honour to become part of the team when I joined the Quality Control department last year, and I could not have hoped for a better

Reflections

Looking backwards… This has been a year of great change for McGowan Transcriptions. We started the year getting accustomed to our new heightened information security measures. Mind

Mental ill health is something that can strike any one of us at any time – and when it does, it can be catastrophic for the individual and their loved ones. No area of a person’s life goes untouched, whether it be the work domain, personal relationships or simply the ability to enjoy the fundamental pleasures of day-to-day existence. When I was 26, my brother and I were diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Like many people with this condition, we had both been unwell for some time but had managed to somehow carry on functioning, hiding our symptoms from those we were trying to protect. When the breaking point finally came, it was both a shock and a relief for all involved; shock for the family – who were completely unaware of our decline – and relief for my brother and me, because we no longer had to pretend we were okay.

Outstanding Contribution!

As much as we praise our transcription team internally we don’t often shout about them externally, but I’ve been so encouraged this week by the support shown from our team that I wanted to share how fabulous they genuinely are.

The transcription projects we handle are often challenging in terms of the subject matter and range from group discussions about retail therapy to highly medical or technical depth interviews. Our transcription team specialise in different areas so we arrange our team into groups according to speciality. However, one member of our team not only has made herself something of an expert in all subject areas and transcription formats, she also happens to be our team mentor and has become the go-to person for any question that might arise be it about grammar, transcription style, specific client requirements and all manner of transcription complexities.
