What an amazing first year I’ve had!

My wife has been a transcriber with McGowan Transcriptions for some years, so I had already heard some great things from her about this company. Mind

Mental ill health is something that can strike any one of us at any time – and when it does, it can be catastrophic for the individual and their loved ones. No area of a person’s life goes untouched, whether it be the work domain, personal relationships or simply the ability to enjoy the fundamental pleasures of day-to-day existence. When I was 26, my brother and I were diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Like many people with this condition, we had both been unwell for some time but had managed to somehow carry on functioning, hiding our symptoms from those we were trying to protect. When the breaking point finally came, it was both a shock and a relief for all involved; shock for the family – who were completely unaware of our decline – and relief for my brother and me, because we no longer had to pretend we were okay.

Outstanding Contribution!

As much as we praise our transcription team internally we don’t often shout about them externally, but I’ve been so encouraged this week by the support shown from our team that I wanted to share how fabulous they genuinely are.

The transcription projects we handle are often challenging in terms of the subject matter and range from group discussions about retail therapy to highly medical or technical depth interviews. Our transcription team specialise in different areas so we arrange our team into groups according to speciality. However, one member of our team not only has made herself something of an expert in all subject areas and transcription formats, she also happens to be our team mentor and has become the go-to person for any question that might arise be it about grammar, transcription style, specific client requirements and all manner of transcription complexities.

Looking back on 2017

Where has 2017 gone?! It was McGowan Transcriptions’ 24th year, and what a memorable year it has been. To sum up: there have been challenges, there have been opportunities; we’ve welcomed new additions to the team as we’ve waved goodbye to others; we’ve even had some familiar faces coming back to us, too (hi Carol!); we’ve had no shortage of complex projects and demanding deadlines to meet, and I’m pleased to say that we have consistently delighted our old and new clients alike with our super-fast turnaround and quality delivery.

I’ve been transcribing with McGowan Transcriptions for three months now and I’d like to share some tips and ideas for super-new beginners to transcription.
