What are closed captions and why are they important… more so now than ever!

Closed captions can pack a lot of benefits for all viewers, not just those who have difficulty hearing. Thank You Internet

Those of you who have been around for as long as I have will definitely remember when the internet became such an important part of our working lives and particularly whilst working at McGowan Transcriptions.

Even whilst writing this blog, I have just nipped online to see when the internet was first available – August 1991 (26 years ago)!
So, back in the early noughties, the big day finally arrived when I had broadband installed and it was with some trepidation that I turned on my PC and started to explore the big World Wide Web (whatever that was!).

Benefits Of Hiring Professional Transcription Services In London

Using transcription services to convert spoken word to text is more practical and cost-efficient than asking your staff to transcribe for you, or doing the transcription yourself. Professional transcription companies have skilled and experienced transcribers who can deliver accurate transcripts on time. Hiring professional transcription services in London ensures that your transcripts have minimal to no errors.

How The Transcription Process Works

Data, speech, or spoken content transcription is a straightforward process. Recorded dictation or information that requires transcription can be sent to a transcriber who will then convert your audio file into a typed, editable document, according to your requirements. Different types of transcription software may also be used to aid in more accurate transcription of the dictation, along with standard templates or user-generated templates to meet your specific requirements.

Digital Transcription Versus Traditional Transcription

Digital transcription services that use audio to text programs and software are becoming increasingly popular, although there is still much debate about their efficiency compared to traditional transcription. Audio to text software programs allow automatic transcription of voice recordings to text format; however, they are still limited in terms of features and capabilities. The poor transcription results they generate often have to be transcribed again using traditional methods to ensure accuracy.

How Times Have Changed

Having read Joe’s blog entitled, ’20 Years Established Today’, I felt a bit nostalgic (and very old!) and started reminiscing about how things have changed in transcription. I feel very privileged to have worked with Joe for 16 of those years and have seen McGowan Transcriptions grow from two or three transcribers to around seventeen transcribers today.

I started off transcribing with Joe at her home for only a few hours each week where we shared her office upstairs. From there, Joe moved house and then I also shared her office with a new member of her family – a gorgeous little puppy (well, not so little) where there was never a dull moment! When I started to transcribe full-time for Joe, I moved into my own office at home.

Focus Group Transcription – What Is It?

I can remember very clearly in my early days of working as a transcriber at McGowan Transcriptions of the trepidation at receiving a focus group discussion to transcribe. ‘How will I ever be able to transcribe what eight people in a room are saying, as well as the moderator, when they are all talking at the same time?’.

Who’d Have Thought…

Who’d have thought transcribing for McGowan Transcriptions could be so different? I’ve worked from home for four years now doing audio transcription work but what a refreshing change Joe and the team at McGowan Transcriptions are. It would seem that transcribing isn’t just transcribing as I once knew it. Gone are the days of typing boring, bog standard “Dear Sir” letters. Every day is different here – it’s digital transcription that’s not boring! It’s taken me a while to find transcription work like this, but I’m so glad that I have.
