A warm welcome to…
McGowan Transcriptions went through quite a few changes last year, which I’m sure a lot of other companies also experienced. Therefore, we didn’t feel it would be appropriate to celebrate two people joining our team during Covid so they slipped in unannounced.
As the country is slowly but surely coming out of the shadows and returning to some sort of normality we would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Mandie and Nicola who joined the team as transcribers back in September 2020.
They have really settled into the McGowan family! Here are a few words from each of them below:
Mandie Iveson – joined the team September 2020
I am a linguist and love words and reading dictionaries! I used to live in Spain and also spent a year in the rainforest in Costa Rica, which was quite crazy. I have two cats and three chickens. I previously worked as a lecturer and researcher and have spent many hours transcribing interviews and focus groups as part of my research. I still do some research, but I was working quite a long way from home and needed to find work closer to my family when the opportunity to join McGowan’s came up. I really enjoy the varied work we do, and everyone is really lovely here. It feels like working in a great team and community and whilst I am quite shy and don’t say much on Slack, I love reading all the random things people post!
Nicola Willis – joined the team September 2020
I have a background working in an operational function for the police, which I finally decided to leave so that I could be more available for my young family. I then joined a couple of different transcription companies working mainly on legal and medical transcription. Over the course of the pandemic, work became sparse so I started looking around for somewhere new and found McGowan Transcriptions. I’ve found McGowan Transcriptions to be an incredibly inclusive, helpful bunch and I’m really glad I joined them. I enjoy the variety of work and subjects and there is always someone on hand to help with any questions, no matter how silly they sometimes feel! The team are incredible, and I’ve never had this degree of contact and engagement with other transcribers at previous firms, which makes it a much better and happier working environment for me.
