Joe McGowan
|
|
|
 |
|
Previous to creating McGowan Transcriptions
in 1993 I worked in the Market Research Industry
for DRSM, Field Management Ltd & Hall &
Partners International in roles ranging from Field
Manager to Support Manager. |
|
| |
During my time in the Market Research
industry I dealt with many transcribers and was
frustrated by the lack of professionalism and accuracy
in what was then a small industry, which is just
one of the many reasons I founded McGowan Transcriptions
15 years ago. |
|
| |
The last 15 years have brought many
changes to the transcription industry and technology
has moved at a great speed; in 1993 we had no modems
- now in 2008 we have digital sound technology...but
nothing can compare to our team of transcribers
in terms of dedication, accuracy and professionalism. |
|
| |
McGowan Transcriptions is the leading
name for transcription services in London and the
UK and are at the forefront of technology with regards
to digital transcription. |
|
| |
McGowan Transcriptions
are unique in that we don't subcontract any third
parties for transcription projects and I'd like
to introduce you to our fantastic team. |
 |
|
Emma Morgan
|
|
Assistant Manager/Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
Previous to joining McGowan
Transcriptions in 1998 I had nine years of audio
transcription experience, during which time I transcribed
everything from 10 minute telephone interviews,
to 2 day launch meetings for new drugs in the pharmaceutical
industry. |
|
| |
Having worked in sales and public
relations I understand the importance of meeting
tight deadlines and am also aware of how helpful
it can be to beat deadlines. |
|
| |
My editorial experience assists me
with quality control and trying to maintain the
high standard of work that McGowan Transcriptions
has a reputation for. |
|
| |
|
 |
|
Donna Lennon
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
In 1986 I joined the Department of
Health & Social Services and had many roles,
including organising and attending large health
conferences across the UK and being involved in
the Smart Healthcare Card Pilot Scheme in England. |
|
| |
In 1990 I joined Bill Bourne Associates.
My main role was to produce time-coded dialogue
scripts and time-coded post production scripts for
clients such as BBC (Food & Drink, Gardeners
World), Hartswood Films (Men Behaving Badly) and
Channel X (Vic Reeves Big Night Out). |
|
| |
I joined McGowan Transcriptions
in 1995, and have been in the privileged position
of watching the team grow from two to twenty! Ive
thoroughly enjoyed the last thirteen years working
with Joe, Emma and the rest of the team. |
 |
|
Shelley Tarling
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
Previous to joining McGowan Transcriptions
my roles have included working for Taylor Woodrow
as a PA/secretary and also for Rank Xerox as a credit
supervisor in their finance division for twelve
years. |
|
| |
After having our daughter, Lianne,
I found that combining motherhood with working for
a large corporation was difficult and decided to
leave so I could concentrate on being a full time
mum, which has been very rewarding. |
|
| |
I joined McGowan Transcriptions
in April 1997 and was promoted to Senior Transcriber
in March 2006. |
| |
|
 |
|
David Bartholomew
|
|
Personal Assistant to Joe |
 |
|
A successful business cannot survive
unless it listens to its customers and my role in
McGowan Transcriptions is to make that process work
as efficiently as possible. |
|
| |
My background has included working
as part of the Opus Partnership management consultancy
group, journalism in various Berkshire based publications
and liaising between patients and medical staff
at Ashford & St Peters Hospital Trust. |
|
| |
Outside of work I'm a
saxophone player with a band called Wildfire and
I'm a big film fan and keen photographer. |
 |
|
Christine Dunn
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
After leaving school in 1984 I worked
as an office junior in a firm of solicitors, moving
on to financial work. After deciding the financial
world was not for me I returned to the legal profession
and began work as a legal secretary until 1996 when
I had my first daughter. |
|
| |
I joined McGowan Transcriptions in
1996 but took a career break in 1999 to enable me
to enjoy motherhood again when I had my second daughter. |
|
| |
After a short break I
returned to McGowan Transcriptions where I have
been transcribing ever since! |
 |
|
Lesley Bailey
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
Qualified as a Bi-lingual secretary,
then went to work at Rockwell International S.A.
reporting to the Sales & Marketing Manager for
Europe, where I stayed for 10 years, during which
time I also supported other managers and sales teams
in an extremely busy environment where there were
always deadlines to be met. |
|
| |
It was in 1994 that I
left to have my twin daughters and soon after heard
about McGowan Transcriptions and it sounded like
the ideal job. I joined the team in October 1997.
I think I'm very fortunate to have something that
allows me a certain amount of flexibility. I find
the work varied and interesting and it also enables
me to keep up to date to a certain extent with new
technology, such as digital transcription!

|
Phillipa Jevons
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
I was brought up in Essex and read
Classics at Cambridge, then decided that getting
a proper job was far too secure and straightforward
an option, and so now I'm an actor. |
|
| |
To actually earn some money, though,
I've done various other things, from bookselling
to EFL teaching, via a stint as administrative assistant
to a freelance journalist. I currently spend two
days a week running drama workshops in primary schools
in Peckham. |
|
| |
I joined the team in
February 2004 and find transcribing interviews appeals
both to my verbally meticulous streak and to my
professional interest in the way people use language.
I live in south-east London with friends. |
 |
|
Nicky Whenman
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
I come from a background of working
within the legal profession as a Legal Executive,
working extremely long hours within the Planning
and Environmental Department of a City firm of solicitors.
Following the birth of my children I went back to
a slower pace of life working in the French department
of a local firm of solicitors in Bishops
Stortford.Working for McGowan Transcriptions provides
me with a varied and interesting workload, but also
with the flexibility to spend time with my children.
|
|
| |
Due to the advanced technology McGowan
Transcriptions provide, my family and I have taken
the opportunity to move permanently to France where
our children now live life to the full in the beautiful
Breton countryside. I joined the team as a full
time digital transcriptionist in August 2006. |

1990 was the year I first met Joe
when I was working for DRSM in the accounts department. |
|
| |
I have been involved with McGowan
Transcriptions on and off from their very first
day of business and my role within the company has
changed over the years from transcriber to accountant
to managing the business whilst Joe and Emma take
their well earned holidays! |
 |
|
Denise Page
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
I have been transcribing
for McGowan Transcriptions since 2002 and this enables
me to fulfill my passions - spending quality time
with my children, playing bass in my band and attempting
to save our beautiful planet. |

I have been working with McGowan Transcriptions
since I first met Joe when I was working as a Support
Secretary at Hall & Partners International in
1996. I have ten years experience of supporting
researchers in the Market Research industry and
understand the implications of missed deadlines
and how important high quality transcription is. |
|
| |
Transcribing for McGowan
Transcriptions gives me a lot of flexibility to
maintain a good work/life balance and it enables
me to take time out to visit my partner in Australia! |

|
I started my career in the office
equipment industry and ended up running my own Canon
dealership for 8 years which was very demanding
but taught me the importance of hard work, time
management and attention to detail. |
|
| |
Our son Louis came along in 2004 and I now use
my time management skills on running the home,
running around after Louis, doing the book keeping
for my husbands salon and since the end of 2005
working for McGowan Transcriptions. I love having
such a varied lifestyle and I can definitely say
I'm never bored!

I first started working for Joe in
2003, while I was working as a researcher in the
television industry. It basically helped supplement
a less than generous wage at the time, nowadays
it enables me to look after my precious daughter
full time. |
|
| |
I have trained as an astrologer and
bio-energetic therapist and I'm now in the process
of setting up my own practise. During this retraining
period, working for McGowan Transcriptions has allowed
me to study while working from home. |
|
| |
My past has included
working in politics, both for one of our major parties
and for an MP; I have also worked in theatre, had
various secretarial and administrative jobs, completed
a Geography degree at London University, specialising
in the Far East and Asia, and travelled in Asia.

Previous to joining McGowan Transcriptions
I worked in the Legal Sector, I started out working
for a Local Authority in the Legal Services Department
specialising in property. Upon relocation to the
South East I worked as a PA/Coordinating Secretary
for a European Law Firm in London within the Commercial
Property/Banking Department. |
|
| |
After the birth of my
daughter in 2003 I worked as a part-time secretary
for a local law firm. Following the birth of my
son in 2007 I wanted to concentrate on bringing
up my children and spending quality time with them
and being around when they needed me.
|
| |
Working for McGowan Transcriptions
has enabled me to have the perfect work/life balance. |

Julia
|
|
|
 |
|
In 1999 I qualified as a Commercial
Property Solicitor after seven years of hard study
and training. By 2006 I was head of the Telecommunications
Department for one of the leading law firms in the
South West of England. My team worked exclusively
for a very demanding client, Vodafone |
|
| |
The hours were horrendous
and the stress levels intolerable. I increasingly
felt as if life was passing me by leaving me no
time to enjoy it. So, in March of this year I moved
to the Alicante region of Spain to experience a
very different way of life. |
|
| |
Joining McGowan Transcriptions
allows me to work whilst enjoying the freedom of
the beautiful sunbathed mountains that surround
me and the very relaxed Spanish lifestyle. |
 |
|
Li Collins
|
|
Senior Transcriber |
 |
|
After graduating from Leicester University
in 1999, I undertook two varied and exciting years
in industry. I finally found my niche when I started
work as a medical audio secretary. I honed my transcription
skills to perfection, developing a real enthusiasm
for the work, which enabled me to utilise my eagle-eyed
language and grammar skills. I started freelancing
as a digital transcriptionist, assisting an author
with his new book. This enabled me to experience
the challenges and disciplines of working from home,
as well as the freedom and flexibility it permitted.
|
|
| |
Joining McGowan Transcriptions in 2006 has allowed
me to start writing my own books, and to have
the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful nature
surrounding my home by day, whilst my counterparts
are trapped in their offices!

|
Previous to working for McGowan Transcriptions
I had a long and varied career with BAA at Heathrow.
I had many roles over the years ranging from gathering
and delivering evidence for the Terminal 5 enquiry
through to my last role as Operational Planning
Manager, where I was responsible for developing
a team with systems and data to enable front line
customer service teams to deliver a smooth operation
in a more planned way |
|
| |
I had a fantastic time working in the industry
and made a very tough decision to take voluntary
redundancy at the end of 2007 to pursue other
opportunities in a 'gap year' that I'd always
wanted. Working for McGowan Transcriptions allows
me to continue working as well as pursue other
opportunities, the most recent working as a volunteer
for my local authority's youth offending team!

Eve Frostick
|
|
|
 |
|
After completing A levels
I undertook a higher diploma in administrative procedures
which then lead me into a junior secretarial role
at a firm of local accountants. My role at this
firm was developed into office manager after de-merging
with two of the partners, specialising in providing
financial assistance to the medical profession. |
|
| |
Working for McGowan Transcriptions allows the
work/life balance I have always sought - enabling
me to provide on-site care for my horses and dogs.

|
Lizzie gave up full time
work after the birth of her first child, Mara, and
started transcribing for McGowan Transcriptions
three years ago; since then she has had a second
daughter, Katie, now two. |
|
| |
For eight years previously Lizzie worked for
a number of London companies as a corporate PA,
where her typing skills were put to good use.
She now greatly enjoys being able to juggle full-time
motherhood, house renovation and transcribing.

|
I began my working life
as an office junior within a busy and vibrant telemarketing
department of an international industrial gas company.
After several years, I went on to study engineering
and worked within the electrical and building services
industry, where I embarked on several roles, most
recently working as a senior manager within the
Estates department of a very busy hospital trust. |
|
| |
After the arrival of our children, we made the
decision to leave our hectic and stressful lifestyle
behind and headed for rural France in search of
a slower pace of life for our family. Working
for McGowan Transcriptions, has provided me with
the flexibility to achieve the perfect balance
of being able to work within this interesting
and challenging field, whilst at the same time
allowing me to focus on bringing up our children
in idyllic surroundings and experience life as
part of a wonderful Breton community.
